Talented and Gifted Education
Resources on the Internet

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)

For over 50 years, NAGC has worked to increase public awareness about issues and concerns for education of our gifted and talented children and to affect positive change. Thus, NAGC invests all of its resources to train teachers, encourage parents and educate administrators and policymakers on how to develop and support gifted children and what’s at stake if high-potential learners are not challenged and encouraged. NAGC is a non-profit organization of parents, teachers/educators, community leaders and other professionals who unite to address the unique needs of all children.

Working on Gifted Issues, the WOGI Project

  • initiating a model or demonstration program
  • expanding student participation in existing programs

National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented (NRCGT)

The NRC-G/T is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to investigate, develop, and disseminate new methods for identifying and teaching gifted students. Special emphasis is placed on research that serves highly able students from culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse populations. The NRC-G/T is located at the University of Connecticut and is run collaboratively with the University of Virginia and Yale University. In addition, researchers work in conjunction with more than 300 public school districts across the country as research study sites.

Citrus County School District

A Quality Exceptional Student Education Program ensures the success of all students in an environment of trust, respect, and open communication. A Quality Exceptional Student Education Program provides for appropriate materials, qualified staff, inservice opportunities and adequate facilities. A Quality Exceptional Student Education Program has a student centered curriculum that is flexible, relevant and focuses on lifelong transitions, offers a complete continuum of delivery models and teaching strategies, and has the support of administration, teachers, parents, and community.

The gifted are those children and youth whose abilities and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional that differential education programming is necessary. These students possess the capabilities for outstanding performance in varying endeavors of their lives. In order that our gifted may become self-actualized, contributing members of society, they need to acquire skills of thinking, feeling, adapting and changing. Citrus County’s Gifted Education Program reflects this philosophy by providing individualized experiences that develop the intellectual, emotional, and social needs of the gifted.
